Short Bio
With an MA in Social Anthropology from FU Berlin and a MSc in International Crimes, Conflict and Criminology from VU Amsterdam, Sarah is currently pursuing her PhD as Doctoral Researcher at the International Max Planck Research School in Halle, focusing on human rights fact-finding processes in the digital age. Previously, Sarah has been working with different humanitarian and human rights organizations and is currently a Legal Research Fellow at Just Access e.V.
Sarah’s research explores the conditions under which information becomes considered valid and reliable to proof legal facts by tracing the socio-technical networks through which such information moves when incorporated into judicial proceedings. She combines ethnographic methods with expert interviews and documentary analysis across multiple sites where evidence is produced and interpreted, including social media sites, human rights organizations, digital databases, and judicial proceedings at the International Criminal Court (ICC), the International Court of Justice (ICJ) as well as domestic proceedings in the Netherlands.
